WINNERS OF THE 2021 CSIR DATATHON

In 2021, the CSIR in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport successfully hosted the first annual Smart Mobility Transport Datathon which was aimed at creating a platform for SMMEs to showcase their innovative software and hardware technology specifically aimed at improving the public transport system in an environmentally friendly manner. The winning SMMEs will be awarded Business Grants from the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller as well as a Business Incubation opportunity with the CSIR.

The Datathon was an intense event attended by start-up innovation and technology SMMEs who had to develop and showcase original solutions and innovations specifically for the transport sector that will make transport seamless, modernise workshop that required participants to utilise the Datathon Data provided to answer; performance-driven questions or to develop innovative commercialisation opportunities using Data.

The Datathon affirmed the Government’s commitment to modernising the transport system, revitalising the economy within the townships and empowering of SMMEs.
